Adaptive Aquatics

Adaptive Aquatics

Our highly trained therapist and Red Cross Certified instructors work intimately with the special needs population in order to promote swim skills. According to the National Autism Association (June 2016), the risk of death by drowning is twice as high for children with ASD than in the general population. In 2009, 2010, and 2011, accidental drowning accounted for 91% of injury-related deaths in the U.S among children with ASD ages 14 years and younger. We hone in on safety skills, both in and around the water. We perfect all swim strokes to promote safe body mechanics to protect the muscles and the joints. We are firm believers in ditching the LABEL and seeing the ABLE!

We also welcome the general population to make swim skills more inclusive for all. Especially, minorities and who have a 50% higher rate of drowning.

Aquatic Therapy

We are a community-based service using the water for its uniquely effective therapeutic resources. Water works more muscles simultaneously and provides faster rehabilitation than land-based therapies. The constant input provides gentle resistance which allows for slower response times, weight relief, less chance of injury, and a greater range of motion. Allowing someone that may encounter limitations to move significantly more freely. The water is the only place where we use all four lobes of the brain. Aquatic therapy sessions are held on a 1:1 basis and focuses on individualized goals. The benefits of aquatic therapy are endless! But don’t just take our word for it – give it a try!
